The Rajasthan Royals secured an impressive victory over the Gujarat Titans, with a final score of 212 runs for 2 wickets. Suryavanshi led the way with an outstanding 101 runs, and Jaiswal’s unbeaten 70* and Parag’s strong performance of 32* sealed their win. The Gujarat Titans put up a good fight with a total of 209 runs for 4 wickets, thanks to Gill’s impressive 84 runs and a solid contribution from Buttler with an unbeaten 50*. However, Theekshana’s bowling efforts of 2-35 helped secure the Royals’ eight-wicket victory.
During his third IPL match, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi managed to defeat veteran players from the top bowling team in IPL 2025, some of whom have been in the sport longer than he has been alive.
Suryavanshi, the youngest T20 centurion to date, holds an impressive array of records. Not only did he score a remarkable 94 runs through boundaries, but he also hit the most sixes (11) for an Indian player in an IPL innings. In addition, his century was achieved in just 35 balls, making it the second-quickest in the history of the IPL. This feat also helped his team, Rajasthan Royals (RR), achieve the fastest successful chase of 200-plus runs in an IPL match. Interestingly, RR had lost three consecutive chases before this game despite dominating for 35 overs in each of those matches.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opening partner of Suryavanshi, delivered a magnificent unbeaten T20 performance, scoring 70 runs off 40 balls. However, he humbly acknowledged that his innings was overshadowed by what he described as “one of the finest displays I have witnessed”.
Out of the 38 balls that Suryavanshi faced, he attempted to hit boundaries on 26 occasions. While he successfully nailed 15 of those attempts, he also scored 25 runs from the 11 false shots made while trying to attack. The highlight was undoubtedly his six over long-off off a slower hard-length delivery from the tall Prasidh Krishna.
A perfect blend of focus, expertise and good fortune – all achieved at an age when most children only dream of accomplishing the same feat. Do they even have the courage to aspire for such lofty ambitions?
The top trio of Gujarat Titans remains consistent in their high-scoring performances.
Undoubtedly, some teams may believe that it only takes two wickets to bring down GT. Nevertheless, their top three consistently deliver effortless and conservative runs. As a result, by the end of the 20 overs in IPL 2025, GT had their top three players ranked among the top six run-scorers.
Although B Sai Sudharsan managed to reclaim his Orange Cap, he wasn’t as smooth on the field as usual. Despite being dropped on nine runs and eventually getting out for 39 off 30 balls, Shubman Gill’s rapid performance allowed GT to accumulate 93 runs in just 10.2 overs. Impressively, this was already the fifth time in only nine innings that the two players had a partnership of 50 or more runs.
Before the explosion, there was a slight deceleration.
After Sai Sudharsan was dismissed, there was a brief calm due to Wanindu Hasaranga’s three consecutive boundaries off overs. Following this, there was a stretch of four overs where only 23 runs were scored until Gill changed the pace with two sixes off Yudhvir Singh in the 14th over. Soon after, Jos Buttler joined in on the action, overcoming his slow start of 7 runs off 10 balls by aggressively attacking Hasaranga and fellow teammate Jofra Archer.
After Hasaranga’s figures were modified to 4-0-39-0, Archer conceded 19 runs in the 18th over. Despite Rajasthan Royals pulling things back with just 21 runs off the final two overs, they were not favored to avoid elimination.
Suryavanshi and Jaiswal reign supreme.
Although it may seem logical to assume that RR had nothing to lose and therefore Suryavanshi was liberated, we have already witnessed in the first two matches that he does not require external freedom. In fact, his disregard for the opponents was evident from the very beginning as he confidently hit a six off Mohammed Siraj’s second delivery, despite Siraj’s impressive record of 12 international wickets. The ball was not an easy half-volley, but Suryavanshi still managed to launch it over long-on.
After being dropped at the start of the second over, Jaiswal made the most of his opportunity by hitting a six and three fours by the end of the third over. However, this was short-lived as it was the only time he had an advantage over his partner.
In the thrilling Perth Test of 2007-08, Ishant Sharma was bowling an extra over to Ricky Ponting when something unexpected happened. Later in 2011, young Suryavanshi was born. Despite Ishant’s attempt to bounce him, Suryavanshi boldly hooked the ball for an impressive six. A slight overpitch by Ishant was quickly taken advantage of as Suryavanshi whipped it over midwicket. Even when Ishant attempted a slower delivery, Suryavanshi’s charging momentum and impressive batting speed still managed to send the mis-hit ball flying over mid-off. But that wasn’t enough for Suryavanshi, as he confidently played a hard cut shot resulting in a top edge that sailed straight over third for another big six.
Gill’s absence due to back spasms in the second innings left GT under the leadership of Rashid Khan. He turned to Washington Sundar’s offspin against the two left-handed batters. At just 21 years old, Washington played a crucial role in India’s victory in the Gabba Test and ultimately, one of the most unbelievable Test series wins ever. His skills were on full display as he effortlessly executed pulls, sweeps, inside-out drives over cover, proving himself to be the youngest IPL half-centurion and quickest this season in just 17 balls.
Prasidh and Rashid provided a much-needed calm in the game by scoring ten runs in just two overs. As the second-highest wicket-taker in this IPL season, Prasidh’s tall stature allows him to produce unsettling bounce from his deliveries. Additionally, he is known for his deceptive slower ball that can surprise even the best of batsmen. Undoubtedly, he must have hoped for some acknowledgment, but Suryavanshi had other plans as he effortlessly hit Prasidh for a six over long-off while standing on the back foot. It was certainly the highlight of the innings.
In his IPL debut, Karim Janat, with his mild medium pace, was no match for Suryavanshi as the latter effortlessly hit a boundary on every ball in the tenth over, resulting in RR’s score reaching 144 and Suryavanshi’s personal score skyrocketing to 94 off just 34 balls. As a result, the required run rate was now only slightly above one run per ball.
The century came through a six from someone who will surely be remembered as one of the greatest T20 bowlers of all time. Rashid, who only conceded 24 runs in his four overs, was simply too fast and precise to be hit. Suryavanshi attempted to score but could not succeed against Rashid’s skill. However, he eventually managed to break even with him.
Krishna delivered a pinpoint yorker that sent Suryavanshi on a slow walk back. Despite impressing everyone with a six on his debut, Suryavanshi left the field in tears, determined to showcase his batting skills. And did he ever.
