Adam Zampa, the Australian legspinner, will not be able to continue playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the remaining IPL matches as his previous shoulder injury has resurfaced.
Zampa made appearances as the Impact Sub for SRH in their initial two matches of the tournament. In these high-scoring games, he took 1 wicket for 48 runs and 1 wicket for 46 runs respectively, with a total of 528 runs being scored between SRH and Rajasthan Royals. However, due to some discomfort in his bowling arm, he was unable to participate in the next four matches. Eventually, he flew back to Australia for additional medical advice.
The recent resurgence of the issue he faced prior to the 2023 ODI World Cup is well-known. Despite overcoming it and becoming the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, he played a crucial role in Australia’s victory.
There was a chance of Zampa rejoining the IPL after taking a break to address the issue, but SRH chose to substitute him with 21-year-old Karnataka batsman R Smaran instead.
Zampa’s return to the field will likely be postponed until Australia’s upcoming T20I series against West Indies in the Caribbean, commencing in late July. As a crucial component of Australia’s T20 World Cup preparations for next year in India and Sri Lanka, Zampa is expected to participate in 19 bilateral T20Is between July and February leading up to the tournament.
