CSK has added S Sriram, a former India allrounder, to their coaching staff as assistant bowling coach for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. He joins a team of experienced coaches including Stephen Fleming (head coach), Mike Hussey (batting coach), and Eric Simons (bowling consultant).
Sriram brings an abundance of coaching expertise from different levels to his position. He takes over for Dwayne Bravo at CSK, as Bravo recently joined Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor for the defending champions.
From 2016 to 2022, he served as Australia’s assistant coach before departing to devote his attention to his duties with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In August 2022, Sriram took on the role of Bangladesh’s T20 consultant for the upcoming Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. One year later, in September 2023, he joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as assistant coach for IPL 2024 while also resuming his position as technical consultant for Bangladesh during the ODI World Cup.
In addition, Sriram has served as assistant coach for Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals).
The 2025 IPL team roster for CSK boasts a lineup of skilled spinners, such as R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Gopal, and Noor Ahmad. Additionally, the team has spin-bowling allrounders in Deepak Hooda and Rachin Ravindra.
Last year, CSK failed to make it to the playoffs despite finishing fifth in the 14 group matches with seven wins and seven defeats. They were tied with RCB on 14 points, but their lower net run-rate prevented them from securing a spot in the final four.
The 2025 IPL season kicks off on March 22, as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the defending champions, face off against RCB in Kolkata. The following evening, CSK will play their first match at home against Mumbai Indians (MI).
