Rarely does a player have the opportunity to face his idol in a match, let alone come out on top, especially on the first ball. It’s like a dream come true, isn’t it?
During the match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, legspinner Digvesh Rathi of LSG showed great skill when he faced off against his idol, Sunil Narine.
Rathi’s run-up resembles Narine’s before he begins his delivery. During the post-game interview following LSG’s recent match against Mumbai Indians, Rathi expressed how watching Narine bowl reassured him that he had found his true calling.
Right before the game against KKR, LSG had shared a video on social media where Rathi was seen timidly meeting Narine while Pooran and Pant playfully teased him. And during the match, Rathi gracefully bowled his idol out with a beautiful legbreak that Narine swung straight to wide long-off.
Despite previous penalties, Rathi continues to test the limits with the IPL authorities. In two consecutive games, he has received disciplinary action for his signature “writing in the notebook” celebration. The first instance resulted in a 25% match fee fine and a demerit point for his send-off to Priyansh Arya of Punjab Kings. The second incident led to a 50% fine and two demerit points for performing the same celebration after dismissing Naman Dhir of Mumbai Indians.
After Narine was dismissed, Rathi once again used his imaginary pen, scribbling on the turf. It remains to be seen if he will face another penalty or not.
