For the second consecutive game, Faf du Plessis took on the captaincy role for Delhi Capitals (DC) and chose to bowl in their last match of the season against Punjab Kings (PBKS). DC’s usual skipper Axar Patel was absent from their previous match against Mumbai Indians due to illness and was still unable to play.
Du Plessis announced during the toss that Karun Nair would be included as an extra batter, while Abishek Porel was left out and KL Rahul remained on the bench for their bowling-focused starting lineup. Tristan Stubbs will take over wicketkeeping duties in place of Porel. Additionally, Delhi Capitals gave Afghanistan’s Sediqullah Atal his IPL debut and replaced Dushmantha Chameera in the playing eleven.
Meanwhile, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer is looking for his team to continue their strong performance as they have already secured a spot in the playoffs. The team has been on a three-game winning streak since before the IPL season was interrupted and their last match was just six days ago, when they defeated Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.
In their batting-first lineup, PBKS made changes by adding returning players Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis, who took the places of Mitchell Owen and Xavier Bartlett from their previous victory against RR.
Beating DC will elevate PBKS to 19 points, securing them the top spot on the points table.
The starting line-up for PBKS consists of 1. Prabhsimran Singh, 2. Priyansh Arya, 3. Josh Inglis as the wicketkeeper, 4. Captain Shreyas Iyer, 5. Nehal Wadhera, 6. Shashank Singh, 7. Marcus Stoinis, 8. Marco Jansen, 9. Azmatullah Omarzai, 10. Harpreet Brar and finally at number eleven is Arshdeep Singh.
