The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have received confirmation from all four of their overseas players – Xavier Bartlett, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mitchell Owen, and Marco Jansen – that they will be returning to play the remaining matches of IPL 2025 on May 17.
The status of the remaining overseas players – Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis and Aaron Hardie – has yet to be confirmed for their return to India. Inglis is included in Australia’s Test team for the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s on June 11. Jansen, who is also a part of South Africa’s WTC squad, is currently in discussions with PBKS regarding his availability as South African players are expected to depart by May 25.
Despite the return of PBKS’s overseas players to their home countries, the majority of their foreign coaching staff chose to remain in India. This includes head coach Ricky Ponting and assistant coaches Brad Haddin and James Hopes. The team has requested that all players and support staff reconvene within the next two days.
PBKS will resume training on Thursday in Jaipur, their new base for the remaining games against Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians on May 18, 24, and 26 respectively.
Ranking third in the points table with a total of 15 points from 11 games, they were playing their 12th league match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala on May 8 when the game was halted during the first innings due to escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to the suspension of IPL.
The IPL was put on hold for a week on May 9, but the declaration of a truce between the two nations on May 10 allowed for the league to continue.
On Monday, the IPL revealed the updated schedule for the remaining portion of the season. This includes 13 league matches and four playoff games. The remaining league matches will take place at six different venues: Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. At this time, the locations for the playoffs have not been disclosed. Mark your calendars for May 29 for Qualifier 1, May 30 for the Eliminator, June 1 for Qualifier 2, and June 3 for the final.
