UP Warriorz (UPW) have announced that Australia’s top-order batter Georgia Voll will join the team as a replacement for Chamari Athapaththu. This is due to Athapaththu’s national duties, which will prevent her from participating in the final phase of the WPL. Athapaththu was expected to be available for UPW until February 26, when they faced Mumbai Indians in Bengaluru. Unfortunately, UPW lost that game.
Mark your calendars for the highly anticipated game on March 3, when UPW takes the field in Lucknow for their first match of the season. The action-packed tour of New Zealand by Sri Lanka will commence the next day in Napier, with three thrilling ODIs and an equal number of T20Is to follow. Therefore, Athapaththu has yet to make an appearance in any of UPW’s five games this season.
Voll, who is currently 21 years old, has participated in a total of three T20Is. She made her first appearance against England in January. However, before this debut, she achieved impressive results as the second highest run-getter for Sydney Thunder during WBBL 2024-25. With a strike rate of 144, Voll scored a total of 330 runs. During this tournament, Thunder advanced to the WBBL Challenger stage where they unfortunately lost to Brisbane Heat.
In her second ODI against India last December, Voll impressively scored a century. She was also the top scorer in the series, with an impressive average of 86.50 and a total of 173 runs. As a result, she has been signed by UPW for INR 30 lakh (US$ 34,350 approx.).
As of now, UPW ranks fourth on the WPL points table among five teams with a record of two wins in their games played.
