Glenn Phillips sustained a groin injury during the Gujarat Titans’ match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6 in Hyderabad. As per an official statement from the IPL, he will not be able to play the rest of IPL 2025 and has already traveled back to New Zealand. As of now, GT, who are currently leading the table with four victories out of five games, have not announced a replacement for Phillips.
Phillips, who was never a part of GT’s starting line-up during his time with the team, entered the game as a substitute fielder in the fifth over of the SRH innings. However, he had to exit almost immediately after fielding Prasidh Krishna’s fourth ball and throwing it to the wicketkeeper for a quick single taken by Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy. He immediately went down holding his groin.
Before the next delivery, with the assistance of some fellow members of the GT camp, he limped away.
On April 3rd, GT faced the loss of Kagiso Rabada as he left home to attend to a pressing personal issue. The team is still uncertain about his potential return. As of now, there has been no announcement about a replacement for Rabada on the GT roster.
GT had initially secured seven overseas players for the season, but they are now reduced to five. Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan and Sherfane Rutherford have featured in all their matches so far, along with Afghanistan’s allrounder Karim Janat and South Africa’s quick bowler Gerald Coetzee. However, Coetzee is currently recovering from an injury that sidelined him from both the SA20 and Champions Trophy earlier this year.
