Delhi Capitals have scored 199 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their innings, with Rahul leading the way with a brilliant unbeaten knock of 112. Porel also contributed with a solid 30 runs, while Arshad managed to take only one wicket for Gujarat Titans, conceding just 7 runs.
KL Rahul hit his fifth IPL hundred to help Delhi Capitals (DC) reach a total of 199 for 3 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Batting first, he scored an unbeaten 112 off just 65 balls, including 14 fours and four sixes. This achievement marked him as the only player to have scored centuries for three different IPL teams, having previously done so for Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.
DC got off to a sluggish start, however, as they were put in to bat first. The opening bowlers, Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan, maintained a consistent length and restricted the scoring opportunities for the batsmen. In fact, they managed to bowl 15 dot balls in the first four overs alone. Faf du Plessis attempted to change the pace of the game by going after Arshad and ended up getting caught at mid-on by Siraj after scoring 5 runs off 10 deliveries.
DC stood at 28 for 1 after five overs, but things quickly took a turn when Rahul stepped up in the last over of the powerplay. With two sixes and a four off Rabada’s bowling, he brought some much-needed energy to the innings. Not only that, but Rahul also reached a remarkable milestone during that over – 8000 runs in T20 cricket. It took him just 224 innings to achieve this feat, putting him behind only Chris Gayle (213) and Babar Azam (218) in terms of speed.
Rahul reached his fifty with a four off Rashid Khan, marking his fourth of the season and taking only 35 balls. This brought DC to a score of 81 for 1 by the end of the tenth over.
R Sai Kishore claimed the wicket of Abishek Porel for 30 off 19, following a previous six. This marked the end of a successful 90-run partnership in just 8.4 overs. However, fortune seemed to favor DC, particularly Rahul’s luck. In the 14th over, he managed to get three consecutive fours off R Sai Kishore’s deliveries. The first was a powerful hit that slipped through Sai Kishore’s grasp, followed by a misfield from Rabada and an outside edge that sped past short third.
Axar dominated Sai Kishore in the 16th over, which was an odd decision by Shubman Gill considering Axar’s strong performance against spin this season. The over resulted in 15 runs. Prasidh Krishna then came back in the following over and quickly took out Axar with his second delivery.
Rahul and Stubbs combined for a blistering 48 runs off just 22 deliveries, propelling GT to a formidable target of 200. However, with the absence of any dew so far, GT faces a challenging task ahead.
