At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Gujarat Titans (GT) won the toss and chose to follow the common strategy of fielding first against Mumbai Indians (MI). The unpredictable pitch, short boundaries, and potential for dew in the later part of the night make no total secure at this venue.
GT made a new addition to their lineup, replacing allrounder Washington Sundar with left-arm quick Arshad Khan. This meant they continued to have Rashid Khan at No. 7, leaving an opening for the opposition to capitalize on early wickets. Shubman Gill mentioned their plan of giving Kagiso Rabada a few extra net sessions before considering him for the playing XI again.
The status of MI remained unaltered, allowing Corbin Bosch to continue filling in for Mitchell Santner. The latter was initially substituted due to a niggle and did not make the cut for Potential Impact Players, implying that he may still be in the process of recuperation.
Both teams are currently tied at 14 points and have a chance to secure the top spot, although GT has a match in reserve. This upcoming game holds significant importance for both teams as they aim for a top-two finish, which would earn them two playoff matches.
“In the Mumbai Indians lineup, Ryan Rickelton will be taking on the wicketkeeping duties, while Rohit Sharma and Will Jacks hold down the second and third spots. Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya will follow in numbers four, five, and six respectively. Naman Dhir joins them in the middle order, while Corbin Bosch, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah make up the bowling attack.”
Karn Sharma, Reece Topley, Robin Minz, Raj Bawa, and Ashwani Kumar have been benched by the Impact Players.
The team for Gujarat Titans includes captain Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan, wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, M Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, R Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan, Arshad Khan, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.
Sherfane Rutherford, Washington Sundar, Anuj Rawat, Mahipal Lomror, and Dasun Shanaka from Impact Players have been benched.
