Amidst the ambiguity surrounding the resumption of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) have maintained their usual operations. Despite the tournament being suspended for a week on May 9 due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the current leaders have not halted their training.
Following the league’s suspension, numerous foreign players and coaches departed India within 24 hours. Unlike the rest, GT maintained their team structure with only Jos Buttler and Gerald Coetzee heading back to their home countries of England and South Africa. The majority of their squad and support staff remained in Ahmedabad, their franchise’s home base, to continue training at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The ceasefire was declared on Saturday evening, and according to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, the board will announce the date for resuming the IPL after consulting with all stakeholders and relevant government authorities on Sunday.
Currently, GT sits at the top of the points table with a record of eight wins out of 11 games. This is on par with RCB’s performance, however GT holds a superior net run rate. As for upcoming matches, two will take place at their home ground against LSG and CSK, while the third will be away against DC in Delhi.
The top performers for GT, B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, currently hold the second and third positions in the Orange Cap race with both having surpassed 500 runs. The only player ahead of them is Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Suryakumar Yadav. Additionally, GT’s fast bowler Prasidh Krishna is leading the way in the Purple Cap race with an impressive 20 wickets under his belt.
