Gujarat Titans put up a score of 209 for 4, with top performances from Gill and Buttler, while Theekshana took 2 wickets for Rajasthan Royals.
As they enter the IPL 2025 games, one cannot help but notice their confidence in facing Gujarat Titans (GT) by taking two early wickets. Even if they manage to achieve this feat in the first half, it seems that GT’s top three players continue to dominate with impressive runs. In fact, all three of them now rank within the top six as GT wraps up with a score of 209 on a typical low Jaipur pitch. Shubman Gill, who scored 84 off 50 balls, shared with Jos Buttler that he believed a score of 190 would be ideal. However, Buttler countered that despite the slow bounce and quick field conditions, the pitch remained true and did not expect an easy victory.
Gill and the new orange cap holder B Sai Sudharsan gave GT a steady start with a 93-run opening partnership, marking their fifth time scoring 50 or more runs in nine IPL innings. RR had an opportunity to end this partnership early, but Shimron Hetmyer’s drop on Sudharsan’s ninth run kept them going. Despite only one aerial shot in the powerplay, GT was able to score 53 runs, largely due to Gill’s contribution of 25 runs off 16 balls.
Gill remained unfazed by the relaxation of field restrictions and continued to dominate. He confidently executed a slog-sweep even on the challenging pitch, sending Riyan Parag’s delivery out of the ground. Wanindu Hasaranga further added to the pressure with three consecutive overs without conceding a boundary. This eventually led to Sudharsan’s dismissal for 39 runs off 30 balls and a sluggish start for Buttler. However, Gill broke free from the tight reins in the 14th over, smashing two sixes off Yudhvir Singh and scoring 23 runs in just four overs.
After getting a sighter of 7 off 10 balls, Buttler wasted no time in disrupting Hasaranga’s analysis by hitting three sixes and a four in the 15th over. In the following 14 balls he faced, he added another 41 runs to his name, showcasing his power with a six over long-on and an impressive reverse-ramped four off fellow countryman Jofra Archer. Despite not having much time at the crease in the last two overs, Buttler’s teammates Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan were still able to score 22 runs.
