Hardik Pandya, along with his teammates (including impact substitute Karn Sharma), have been fined for their slow over-rate during Mumbai Indians’ defeat to Gujarat Titans at their home ground on Tuesday night. In addition, head coach Ashish Nehra of the victorious team has also received a fine for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
During the intermittent second half of the 2025 IPL match between MI and GT, due to rain delays, an extra fielder was required within the 30-yard circle for the crucial 19th over of the chase. This is a standard penalty in IPL games. With GT needing 15 runs off Deepak Chahar’s over, they were able to secure victory on the last ball.
Hardik was penalized INR 24 lakh for the second instance of his team, MI, committing an offence under his leadership this season. Meanwhile, his fellow teammates faced fines of INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, depending on which amount was lower.
In the final moments of the match, Nehra was in top form as he seemed adamant for the umpires to resume play following the latest rain delay. However, he received a 25% fine and a demerit point for violating Article 2.20 of the IPL code of conduct, although the specific transgression was not disclosed by the league.
In a repeat occurrence, the IPL has issued a demerit point to another coach for violating their code. The latest recipient of this penalty is Munaf Patel, the bowling coach for Delhi Capitals (DC), following their Super Over victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Delhi on April 16.
Hardik is accompanied by several compatriots, including Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, Rajat Patidar and Riyan Parag.
