According to the IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, the fate of the tournament is dependent on government instructions regarding ongoing border tensions between India and Pakistan. As of now, there is no update on whether the tournament will proceed or not.
Dhumal of the Punjab Kings spoke to PTI on Thursday night after the PBKS vs DC IPL match in Dharamsala was called off due to “a significant technical failure”. He stated that they were currently reviewing the evolving situation and had not yet received any directive from the government. Of course, when making a decision, all logistics will be taken into consideration.
The upcoming match will take place in Lucknow on Friday, featuring the teams Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). According to Dhumal, although the game is currently scheduled to go ahead, the situation may change and any decisions will prioritize the well-being of everyone involved.
After the cancellation in Dharamsala, the teams and their support staff will be taken to Delhi by a special train departing from Pathankot, which is approximately 85km away. The journey to Pathankot will be made by road, as the airports in Dharamsala, Kangra and Chandigarh are currently closed due to India’s precautionary measures.
As of now, IPL 2025 has completed 58 games, including the one that was abandoned in Dharamsala. The remaining group stage consists of 12 games, with matches set to take place in Lucknow (2), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai and Jaipur. The playoffs will then be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
