After 32 matches, the moment has arrived – a fresh face now holds the top spot (and third place) on the Orange Cap leaderboard in IPL 2025. Let’s take a look at the current rankings for the highest scorers and most successful bowlers after Gujarat Titans (GT) triumphed over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on Monday evening.
The list of top scorers for the Orange Cap
Following the initial game of IPL 2025, Virat Kohli from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured the first position with his impressive score of 59 against KKR. Soon after, in the second match, Ishan Kishan of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) took over the lead with an outstanding 106 not out against Rajasthan Royals (RR). However, Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) claimed the spotlight in the fourth game with a solid score of 75 versus Delhi Capitals (DC). Despite this, it was his impressive 70 against SRH in the seventh match that propelled him to the top spot, overtaking Kishan.
He remained there until Match No. 39 when GT’s B Sai Sudharsan, who had held the second place on the table for most of the tournament, smashed 52 runs in just 36 balls. This not only propelled him to the top spot, but also made him the first player in the competition to surpass 400 runs.
The current situation has placed Pooran in an unusual spot at No. 2. It cannot be denied that Sai Sudharsan’s outstanding performance – scoring 74, 63, 49, 5, 82, 56 and 36 – has played a significant role in this. However, Pooran’s own struggles in his previous two matches – only managing to score 8 and 11 runs – have also contributed. Despite this, he still has a total of 368 runs and will be taking the field again on Tuesday against DC in Lucknow. Naturally, he will be eager to reclaim his position as No.2.
Also deserving a mention is the new No. 3, Jos Buttler, who has been in top form. In his latest match against KKR, he scored an impressive 41 not out in just 23 balls, bringing his total runs for the IPL to 345. Meanwhile, their captain Shubman Gill shone with a stunning knock of 90 runs in 55 balls against KKR. This performance has boosted him up to the seventh spot on the table with a tally of 305 runs, surpassing many other batters.
MI’s Suryakumar Yadav, RCB’s skipper Kohli, and RR’s Yashasvi Jaiswal are currently the only players in the 300-plus club after Sunday night’s match.
The rankings for the Purple Cap
With less commotion occurring at the other table, Prasidh Krishna increased his lead at the top of the standings with 16 wickets to his name, thanks to his impressive performance of 2 for 25. This puts him four wickets ahead of the runner-up.
In addition to him, GT’s R Sai Kishore and Mohammed Siraj each also took a wicket, bringing their individual totals to 12. This places them on par with Kuldeep Yadav (DC), Noor Ahmad (CSK), Josh Hazlewood (RCB), and Shardul Thakur (LSG).
