March 21 marks the beginning of IPL 2025, with Eden Gardens hosting both the opening game and final on May 25. Furthermore, sources indicate that WPL 2025 will take place from February 7 to March 2.
Prior to the highly anticipated mega auction in November, the IPL had informed all franchises of the upcoming windows for the next three seasons (2025-2027). The window allocated for 2025 was from March 15 to May 25. However, due to the scheduled Champions Trophy final on March 9, the IPL made the decision to maintain a gap of approximately two weeks between the two tournaments. Fans can expect the complete IPL schedule to be released later this month.
Per tradition, the defending champions’ home turf will once again serve as the start and end point of the tournament. This year, it’s Eden Gardens – home of Kolkata Knight Riders, who emerged victorious in IPL 2024. The upcoming season’s Qualifier 2 will also take place at Eden Gardens, while the first two playoff matches – Qualifier 1 and Eliminator – are scheduled for Hyderabad.
For the next season in 2025, there will be a total of 74 matches, which is consistent with the previous three seasons. This number is ten less than what was originally planned for the IPL in 2022, when media rights were recently sold for the cycle from 2023 to 2027. The tender document for the new rights cycle revealed that there will be a range of matches per season, starting with 74 games in 2023 and 2024, followed by 84 games in 2025 and 2026, and a maximum of 94 games in the final year of the deal in 2027.
The WPL has announced four potential venues for their upcoming event.
In addition to Mumbai and Bengaluru, the BCCI has chosen Baroda and Lucknow as new venues for the upcoming WPL season. However, the specific number of matches at each location is yet to be announced as the schedule for the February 7 start date has not been released by the WPL.
