The captains of all Indian Premier League (IPL) teams will convene in Mumbai this Thursday for a crucial pre-season assembly. As reported by Cricbuzz, the meeting is scheduled to commence at noon in the headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Aside from the captains, managers from all 10 franchises have also been included in the invitation list.
As per recent emails from the BCCI/IPL, a one-hour briefing will take place at the Cricket Centre for franchises. The focus will be on updates and additions for the upcoming season, to be followed by sponsored activities at the Taj Hotel.
The upcoming event will last for four hours and will include the usual tradition of a group photo with all the captains. Normally, these gatherings and photo ops occur in the city hosting the season opener. However, this year’s event is taking place at the BCCI office, hinting at a possible addition to the standard rule review.
Confirmed captains for all teams have been announced, with the recent confirmation of Axar Patel as skipper for Delhi Capitals. The remaining nine captains are: Hardik Pandya (MI), Pat Cummins (SRH), Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK), Rajat Patidar (RCB), Rishabh Pant (LSG), Shreyas Iyer (PBKS), Sanju Samson (RR), Ajinkya Rahane (KKR), and Shubman Gill (GT).
The latest updates from various camps show that most captains and players who played in the Champions Trophy have joined their respective teams. On Sunday, Pat Cummins also arrived in Hyderabad. Despite the World Test Championship final starting on June 11, just two weeks after the IPL final on May 25 at Lord’s, the Australian skipper has committed to being fully available for the entire season.
On March 22, the IPL will commence at the Eden in Kolkata, featuring a match between Kolkata Knight Riders, the current champions, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
