In the recent match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Ishant Sharma, a bowler for GT, was found guilty of violating the IPL’s code of conduct. As a result, he has been fined 25% of his match fees and given one demerit point.
According to the IPL, Ishant was found to have violated Article 2.2, which pertains to “misuse of cricket gear or attire, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during a game.” This was classified as a Level 1 offense, for which Ishant owned up to and agreed upon with match referee Javagal Srinath’s punishment.
During the match in Hyderabad against SRH, Ishant was unable to secure any wickets and ended up conceding a total of 53 runs in just four overs. As the game progressed, he was substituted out 13 overs into GT’s innings, with Sherfane Rutherford taking his place.
Ishant’s performance in the IPL has been costly thus far. Across three games and eight overs, he has conceded a total of 107 runs and only managed to take one wicket.
The recent success of GT’s, with their third win out of four games, has propelled them to the No. 2 spot on the points table. This comes after a disappointing start to the season with a loss to Punjab Kings, but they have bounced back with three consecutive victories.
