The Royal Challengers Bengaluru boasts a formidable fan base in the IPL. Despite not winning a title yet, their loyal fans have continued to support and set an example of dedication for this franchise.
In preparation for IPL 2025, all teams had to revamp their squad for the upcoming tournament. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru put forth their best efforts to assemble a strong team for the next edition of the competition. Taking into consideration their performance in the previous year, we will now examine three players who may not be present in their lineup this season.
Will Jacks
The English all-rounder played a crucial role in the RCB team during the IPL 2024 season, but he will now be joining the MI team. In his eight matches, Will Jacks scored 230 runs with an impressive average of 32.86 and a remarkable strike rate of 175.57. He also achieved both a century and a half-century during the tournament.
Although Jacks’ bowling skills were not utilized much, his batting proved to be the key in turning the team’s fortunes around. He excelled in the top order during the latter part of the tournament and delivered some game-changing performances, giving RCB an advantage in critical matches throughout their campaign.
The absence of Will Jacks’ dynamic presence at the top of RCB’s batting lineup may prove to be a significant loss. His skill in accelerating the team’s scoring rate could have been a valuable asset for RCB during IPL 2025.
Faf du Plessis
In 2024, the South African superstar Faf du Plessis was at the helm of the team during the IPL. However, for the IPL 2025 auction, he was released and subsequently bought by DC. Apart from his strategic leadership skills, du Plessis also proved to be an asset in the top order with his valuable contributions.
Over the past three seasons, the dynamic duo of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli has been instrumental in setting the stage for most of the Royal Challengers’ victories. Throughout his 45 appearances for the team, the South African standout recorded an impressive total of 1,636 runs, with a batting average of 38.05 and a strike rate of 146.99.
In the upcoming IPL season of 2025, RCB will need to find a new partner for Virat Kohli. According to their current squad, Phil Salt may be asked to open alongside Kohli. While Salt brings power and aggression to the batting line-up, his inconsistency may be a worry for the team. The reliability and steady performance that Faf du Plessis brought to RCB’s opening position is something they could potentially miss this season.
Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell is an explosive batsman known for his unorthodox hitting style. He has established himself as a dominant force in the cricket world due to his aggressive approach and ability to score runs at a rapid pace.
From 2021 to 2024, Glenn Maxwell was a key member of the RCB squad. However, he was not retained for the IPL 2025 auction and was purchased by Punjab Kings instead. While his performance in the 2024 season for RCB was disappointing, Maxwell proved to be a valuable asset in his first three seasons with the team. He consistently delivered runs and pivotal wickets, playing a crucial role in turning the tide in several matches.
The Aussie star, unfortunately, will not be seen in action with RCB during IPL 2025. As a result, the team may struggle to find a middle-over hitter and a bowler to disrupt partnerships in the middle stages of the game.
