Matthew Wade, the former Australia T20 World Cup-winning wicketkeeper-batter, has joined Gujarat Titans as an assistant coach. The 37-year-old comes from a successful BBL campaign with Hobart Hurricanes, where he played as a player. He was also present at the crease during their victorious moment less than two months ago, when Hurricanes won their first title.
Out of Wade’s 15 IPL games, he has represented Titans in 12 of them. He has been a consistent member of the team since their debut in 2022, which resulted in them winning the tournament. Apart from his stint with Titans, he has also played T20 cricket globally. Most recently, he was seen playing for Sharjah Warriors in the UAE, where they made it to the playoffs of ILT20 in February.
With 5267 runs in 276 matches in the shortest format, Wade has established himself as a versatile player, excelling as both an opener and a closer. Perhaps his most memorable performance was leading Australia to victory over Pakistan in the semi-finals of the 2021 T20 World Cup. In October 2024, he announced his retirement from international cricket.
