Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)’s quick bowler Mayank Yadav is expected to join the team on Tuesday and should be ready for their upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur this Saturday.
LSG’s chances will be further improved with the return of a key player, as they began IPL 2025 without him, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep due to various injuries. Mohsin Khan was initially on the roster but sustained an injury and had to withdraw from the tournament, prompting Shardul Thakur to take his place.
Avesh and Akash Deep have both joined the squad, playing in five and three games, respectively, out of LSG’s six matches thus far. Despite a weakened pace attack, LSG has emerged victorious in four games and will be hosting Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home on Monday.
Mayank, 22, had been sidelined due to a back injury since October 2024. This was shortly after his international debut against Bangladesh, where he played three T20Is at home. He spent the following domestic season recovering at the BCCI’s Centre Of Excellence (CoE), formerly known as NCA, in Bengaluru. Recently, LSG head coach Justin Langer watched videos of Mayank operating at “90-95%” and stated that the fast bowler would be joining the squad in the near future.
Last season, Mayank was one of the five players retained by LSG before the mega auction, having played in only four games.
Despite initially missing key members of their pace attack, LSG has proven to be a formidable bowling force this season. They handed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) their first defeat by limiting them to just 190 runs in Hyderabad, defended a total of 203 runs at home against Mumbai Indians (MI), and most recently halted Gujarat Titans’ momentum by keeping them to a score of 180 despite being at 122 for 2 after 13 overs.
Thakur, LSG’s most seasoned bowler, ranks second on the list of top wicket-takers, while spinner Digvesh Rathi has been their standout player this season.
