Lucknow Super Giants have a score of 235 for 2, with Marsh contributing 117 runs and Pooran remaining unbeaten at 56. Gujarat Titans’ Sai Kishore claimed one wicket for 34 runs.
Mitchell Marsh’s dominant performance, scoring 117 runs off just 64 balls, propelled Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a huge 235 for 2 against Gujarat Titans (GT) on a black-soil pitch in Ahmedabad. He received valuable assistance from teammates Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram, who both made strong contributions of an unbeaten 56 off 27 and 36 off 24 respectively.
GT had a rough beginning when LSG was brought in after winning the toss. Arshad Khan faced some challenges with his footing twice during his second over. Kagiso Rabada also struggled to grip the ball in the following overs. Despite Markram having to move out of the way, Hawk-Eye confirmed that it was a valid delivery, just 2cm below his waist at the crease.
During this time, Marsh and Markram experienced a couple of mis-hits but were also able to secure some boundaries. As the powerplay came to an end, LSG had accumulated a promising score of 53 runs without losing any wickets.
“With two right-handers at the crease, Shubman Gill decided to bring in R Sai Kishore as a bowler instead of Rashid Khan. Despite Marsh hitting two sixes in his first eight deliveries, the spinner was able to make a breakthrough by dismissing Markram.”
Rashid took over in the 12th over. Prior to this match, Marsh had only managed 31 runs off 33 balls against him. However, tonight proved to be a different story as he hit six, four, six, four, four and one in his opening over.
Gill made a daring move by entrusting Sai Kishore with an over while Pooran was at bat. However, it didn’t quite go as planned as Pooran took control of the strike and managed to hit a six and a four in just four balls off the spinner.
Following a successful 91-run partnership with Markram, Marsh continued to dominate the field by scoring another 121 runs in just 52 balls, this time alongside Pooran. He impressively achieved his hundred in just 56 deliveries, marking his first century in the IPL and second in all T20 matches.
Marsh was dismissed for 117 runs, but Rishabh Pant provided a glimpse of what could have been. Despite facing only six deliveries, he managed to hit two sixes and ended the innings unbeaten on 16.
