Mitchell Starc has chosen not to fly back to India for Delhi Capitals (DC) to complete the rest of IPL 2025. According to AAP, after participating in the match that was cancelled in Dharamsala and will now be rescheduled, Starc informed the franchise that he will not be continuing with the league. Additionally, Donovan Ferreira, who appeared in one game this season, will also not make a comeback.
This update ensures that Starc will have a smooth path to the World Test Championship (WTC) final, eliminating any chance of participating in T20s in India just a week prior. He has been the leading wicket-taker for DC this season, taking 14 wickets in 11 games at an average of 26.14.
The status of Faf du Plessis’ return to DC has yet to be confirmed, while Tristan Stubbs is set to rejoin the team for the remainder of the league phase before departing for the WTC final.
DC have brought on board Mustafizur Rahman to fill in for Jake Fraser-McGurk, who will not be joining them in India. However, there is some doubt surrounding Mustafizur’s availability as the BCB has not yet been requested to issue a non-objection certificate for the player. Currently, Mustafizur is in Sharjah playing in a T20I series against UAE.
Among the remaining Australians at the IPL, Pat Cummins and Travis Head are heading back to India to join Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Unfortunately, SRH has been eliminated from playoff contention and will wrap up their season on May 25. This will provide a suitable window for both players to prepare for the upcoming WTC final.
Josh Hazlewood is currently considering his shoulder injury before making a decision on going back to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for their upcoming title run. In the meantime, Josh Inglis has not yet finalized his plans to return to the team of Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Mitchell Marsh is confirmed to rejoin Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
