This was the pattern of the Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) batting performance against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), resulting in a total score of 166 for 7 in the initial innings. Delivering upbeat news to LSG’s team, captain Rishabh Pant made a significant contribution, although he faced challenges against spin and ultimately scored 63 runs off 49 deliveries as the leading scorer.
Pant entered the game during the powerplay after CSK’s Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj had already taken out Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran with ease. He wasted no time in getting going, showcasing his skills with expertly executed cuts and even a reverse-lap six over short third.
The combined efforts of Noor Ahmed and Ravindra Jadeja caused Pant’s strike rate to drastically drop from 165 to 103. During his encounter with Noor, he faced 15 balls and scored only 10 dots, giving him a low strike rate of 40. This puts him second on the list for worst performance against a single bowler in the IPL (with a minimum of 15 balls).
Nevertheless, Pant eventually found his rhythm against the pace bowlers of Pathirana and Khaleel. He quickly reached a fifty in just 42 balls with the help of two sixes before attempting to finish strong. Unfortunately, he was dismissed by Pathirana in the final over after playing his part in the team’s success.
Mitchell Marsh (30) and Ayush Badoni (22), batting at No. 5, made valuable contributions but were both dismissed by Jadeja in his three overs, conceding only 24 runs. Marsh fell to a pull shot while Badoni was caught out charging at a fast and wide delivery.
Thanks to Abdul Samad’s 11-ball 20 in the latter stages of LSG’s innings, they managed to add 45 runs in just three overs while batting alongside Pant. However, despite this effort, LSG still ended up with their lowest score of the IPL 2025 tournament.
