In the upcoming IPL season of 2025, Mumbai Indians have acquired allrounder Corbin Bosch to take the place of his fellow South African player, Lizaad Williams, who unfortunately will not be able to participate due to an injury.
Bosch, a bowling allrounder, is yet to make his IPL debut, but has previous experience with Rajasthan Royals as a reserve player. The 30-year-old is also familiar with the MI franchise from his time with their title-winning SA20 side, MI Cape Town, in February of this year. During that tournament, Bosch performed well, taking 11 wickets in seven innings with an economy rate of 8.68 to help lead MICT to their first-ever SA20 title. Now, Bosch will have the opportunity to reunite with his SA20 teammate Ryan Rickelton at Mumbai Indians, where he will join the team as their third seam-bowling allrounder behind captain Hardik Pandya and Raj Bawa.
He was chosen as a top player for Peshawar Zalmi in the 2025 PSL draft, held in January. However, he will now have to give up that opportunity to join the IPL. This year, the PSL will take place during April and May, overlapping with the IPL schedule.
Bosch has experience playing in both the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the now-defunct Mzansi Super League (MSL). Along with his versatility in the batting line-up, where he even batted at No.3 for Barbados Royals in CPL 2022, he is also capable of bowling at the death.
In total, Bosch has participated in 86 T20 matches, where he has achieved a bowling record of 59 wickets with an economy rate of 8.38. He also demonstrates strong batting skills with 663 runs at a strike rate of 113.33.
MI’s IPL partnership only adds to his recent accomplishments. In the Centurion Boxing Day Test match against Pakistan, Bosch became the first South African player to secure a four-wicket haul and also score over fifty runs on his debut. His impressive performance in both aspects contributed significantly to South Africa securing a spot in the WTC final at Lord’s this upcoming June.
Following his victory in the SA20, Bosch was included in South Africa’s Champions Trophy squad as a replacement for an injured player. However, he only participated in a warm-up match during their time in Karachi.
Regarding Williams, he joins Afghanistan’s mystery spinner AM Ghazanfar as the second MI player to be out of commission for the upcoming season due to injury.
