Mumbai Indians’ (MI) left-arm wristspinner Vignesh Puthur has been sidelined from IPL 2025 due to stress reactions in both his shins. As a result, the franchise has enlisted uncapped legspinner Raghu Sharma to take his place.
Puthur made a lasting impression during his debut this season, claiming three wickets against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In total, he achieved six wickets in five matches with an economy rate of 9.08.
The Mumbai Indians franchise stated that Vignesh will remain with the team to work on his recovery and rehabilitation under the guidance of their medical and S&C staff.
At 32 years old, Raghu was chosen as one of MI’s net bowlers and has been added to the main squad for his base price of INR 30 lakh. This marks a first-time experience in the IPL for him, similar to Puthur.
Throughout his years in domestic cricket, he has played for both Punjab and Puducherry. In 11 first-class games, he boasts a total of 57 wickets with an average of 19.59. Additionally, he has also taken 14 wickets in nine List A matches and three wickets in three T20s.
After a slow start to the tournament, MI has bounced back and secured five consecutive wins. As a result, they now hold third place on the points table with a total of 12 points from ten games.
