The initial season of IPL was a mix of incomplete concepts, blurred allegiances, and a persistent interest in the potential of the tournament. During this time, MS Dhoni was recently leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup, a youthful Virat Kohli was already striving to keep RCB united, and Rohit Sharma was a fresh-faced middle-order batsman. Fast forward to IPL 2025, these three – along with a few others – from the inaugural group remain present.
The renowned cricketer, MS Dhoni.
There were 264 matches played, resulting in a total of 5243 runs scored with a strike rate of 137.53.
The teams that I have been a part of include CSK from 2008 to 2015 and from 2018 to the present, as well as RPSG in 2016 and 2017.
In the years 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023, titles were awarded.
Dhoni has become a synonymous figure with both Chennai Super Kings and Indian cricket. He joined CSK as their marquee signing in 2008 and has been their captain since, making him the only player to lead them during their two-year suspension. Under his leadership, CSK has achieved unparalleled success with five titles, ten finals, and a record-breaking number of playoff appearances, solidifying their position as the most consistent team in IPL history. Even now, the sight of Dhoni donning a yellow CSK jersey remains one of the most iconic images in the IPL.
Virat Kohli is the captain of the Indian national cricket team.
In terms of statistics, there have been 252 matches played with a total of 8004 runs and a strike rate of 131.97.
RCB has been a consistent presence in the world of cricket, as it has remained a team since its inception in 2008.
0 Titles and 3 Finals (2009, 2011, 2016)
Kohli’s IPL experience has been synonymous with the RCB jersey, but unfortunately, he has yet to achieve an IPL title. Since joining in 2008 as the U-19 World Cup-winning captain for India, he has remained loyal to the franchise through its ups and downs. As the league’s top scorer, he holds the record for most IPL runs with over 8000. His exceptional performance in 2016, scoring 973 runs, was a remarkable outlier that almost led RCB to their first title solely under his leadership.
Rohit Sharma, a renowned cricketer, is well-known for his exceptional batting abilities and strategic gameplay on the field.
Match count – 257 | Total runs – 6628 | Strike rate – 131.14
Deccan Chargers (2008-2010) and MI (2011-present) have been the two teams I’ve been a part of.
There are a total of six titles won in the years 2009, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
Rohit’s journey in the Indian Premier League began as a freewheeling stroke player with Deccan Chargers, where he won his first IPL title in 2009. After being signed by Mumbai Indians, he quickly became the cornerstone of their team, leading them to their first championship in his debut year as captain. Over the next decade, Rohit helped build one of the most successful IPL franchises and added four more trophies to their cabinet. To this day, he remains MI’s top scorer and is among just four players to have scored over 6000 runs in the IPL. His collection of six IPL trophies stands as the most for any player in the league.
The cricketer Manish Pandey
The tally stands at 171 matches, with a total of 3850 runs and a strike rate of 121.10.
The teams that I have played for in my career include MI in 2008, RCB from 2009 to 2010, PWI from 2011 to 2013, KKR from 2014 to 2017 and currently since 2024. In between, I also had stints with SRH from 2018 to 2022 and DC in the year 2023.
The 2014 edition of Titles features a collection of various titles.
Manish Pandey’s time in the IPL has been highlighted by one particular moment – his 94 runs in the 2014 final for KKR, leading them to their second championship. Throughout his career, he has played for various teams, always carrying the weight of being a potential middle-order batter. While there have been shining moments, such as his century for RCB in 2009, it has mostly been a journey of trying to find stability, despite never missing a single season.
The Indian cricketer, Rahane.
There have been a total of 185 matches played, resulting in 4642 runs with a strike rate of 123.42.
Throughout his career, the player has been a part of multiple teams, including MI from 2008 to 2010, RR from 2011 to 2015 and again from 2018 to 2019, RPSG in 2016 and 2017, DC in 2020, KKR in 2022, CSK in 2023 and 2024, and currently with KKR.
Titles for the upcoming year, specifically 2023, are now available.
In his early years with Rajasthan Royals, Rahane prioritized precision rather than strength in his T20 batting style. However, as the game evolved faster than he anticipated, he had to constantly adapt and reinvent himself. He eventually found success when he joined CSK in 2023 and took on a more aggressive approach, leading them to win the title. Now as captain of KKR, Rahane faces a new challenge: leading the defending champions who have traditionally preferred power over finesse.
Ashwin
Played 212 matches with 180 wickets taken and an economy rate of 7.12.
The teams I have played for include CSK from 2008 to 2015 and currently, RPSG in 2016, KXIP in 2018 and 2019, Delhi Capitals in 2020 and 2021, and RR from 2022 to 2024.
Title 2 was the chosen title for both 2010 and 2011.
Few players in IPL history have combined skill, strategy, and audacity quite like Ashwin. He rose to prominence as Dhoni’s enforcer during powerplays at CSK, continuously evolving his game to stay ahead of the competition. From leading the Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) to reinventing himself as a pinch-hitter with RR, he has never been one to stick to conventional methods. Ashwin’s controversial mankading of Jos Buttler in 2019 sparked an ongoing debate, and he further demonstrated his dedication to the rules by being the first player to strategically retire himself out. Now returning to his roots at CSK, Ashwin continues to make his mark on the IPL.
The talented Ravindra Jadeja
In terms of statistics, this player has a record of 240 matches played, with a total of 2959 runs scored and a strike rate of 129.78. In addition, they have taken 160 wickets with an economy rate of 7.62.
I have been a part of multiple teams throughout my career, including RR in 2008-2009, Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011, CSK from 2012-2015 and currently from 2018 onward, as well as GL in 2016-2017.
There have been four different titles awarded in the years 2008, 2018, 2021, and 2023.
After achieving success with RR in their title-winning first season and remaining a key player in the following one, Jadeja was absent from the 2010 edition as he attempted to negotiate terms with another franchise. In 2011, he joined Kochi Tuskers Kerala before reclaiming the spotlight when CSK signed him in 2012. With CSK, he ranks second in most wickets taken, only behind Dwayne Bravo, and holds the record for most runs scored in an IPL over (37 against RCB in 2021). He solidified his legacy during the 2023 final when he delivered a boundary on the last ball to secure victory. Despite a less-than-ideal stint as captain for CSK in 2022, Jadeja remains a match-winner and his accomplishments ensure his lasting impact on the IPL.
Ishant Sharma, the Indian cricketer, has been part of the national team for over a decade.
In 110 matches, a total of 92 wickets have been taken, with an economy rate of 8.24.
Throughout the years, I have been a part of various teams such as KKR from 2008 to 2010, Deccan Chargers from 2011 to 2012, SRH from 2013 to 2015, RPSG in 2016, KXIP in 2017, and currently playing for GT. Additionally, I am also signed with DC from 2019 until 2024.
No titles or finals won.
Throughout his IPL career, Ishant has never quite found his place – his dominance in traditional cricket not always translating to the fast-paced T20 format. KKR initially invested heavily in him during the 2008 auction, but since then, he has played for seven different teams and often served as a seasoned veteran rather than a top-tier bowler. However, for the past two seasons, he has exclusively represented DC and will now join GT for this upcoming season.
Change the name of Swapnil Singh.
In a total of 14 matches, I have taken 7 wickets with an economy rate of 8.92.
In MI (2008), KXIP (2016-2017), LSG (2023), and currently with RCB (2024-Present).
No titles won, no finals played.
Swapnil Singh’s IPL journey stands out from the rest – after joining MI in 2008, it wasn’t until 2016 that he finally debuted for KXIP. At 33 years old, Swapnil found himself caught up in a fantastic run with RCB last year. Initially signed as a reserve left-arm spinner, he impressively made his way into the playing XI and played a vital role in their six consecutive victories, leading them to the playoffs. This performance earned him a retention by RCB and a well-deserved salary increase at the mega auction before this current season.
