Nitish Kumar Reddy has received the green light from the medical team at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to participate in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s first match of IPL 2025. The game falls on March 23, which is also their home fixture against Rajasthan Royals, marking the second day of competition. Nitish is set to join the SRH squad at their pre-tournament camp, commencing this Sunday.
On Saturday morning, Nitish completed the final box he needed to tick in order to return to action following his recovery from a side strain acquired during last month’s T20I series against England. Scoring an 18, he surpassed the pass score of 16.5 on the yo-yo test.
Nitish recently participated in a practice game on Friday, during which he bowled at full speed without any discomfort. The BCCI medical panel took extra precautions with Nitish, resulting in a two-week extension to his rehabilitation period – originally predicted to last three weeks. As the India team management prepares for their upcoming tour of England following the conclusion of the IPL season in late May, Nitish continues to play a crucial role in their Test plans.
Ahead of last year’s mega auction, SRH held onto five players, including Nitih. In the 2024 IPL season, he had a stellar performance with 303 runs at a strike rate of 142.92. His bowling, however, was not on par as he only managed to take three wickets and gave up runs at an average of 11.62.
Following his international debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh at home, Nitish’s reputation continued to grow. He played a significant role in all five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and his standout moment was scoring his first Test century in Melbourne.
Following the tour, Nitish had shown great interest in collaborating with Bharat Arun, the former bowling coach for India, while in Chennai. However, due to a side strain, this opportunity did not come to fruition.
