For only the third time this season, Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to field, as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) attempts to secure their first victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai. Both sides were anticipating dew later in the evening; even CSK would have opted to field. With each team only having won two out of eight matches, they were both at the bottom of the table.
The major team update was the presence of Dewald Brevis, nicknamed Baby AB due to his similar playing style as AB de Villiers, in CSK’s lineup. Brevis previously debuted for Mumbai Indians but was eventually released and went unsold during the auction. However, he was brought in mid-season to replace Gurjapneet Singh.
Brevis’ addition resulted in the exclusion of Rachin Ravindra, while Ayush Mhatre, CSK’s youngest player to date, was chosen to start the innings alongside Shaik Rasheed. Deepak Hooda took over for Vijay Shankar in the middle order and Sam Curran returned to the team. Jamie Overton made room for Curran as well. On a side note, R Ashwin was listed as one of the substitutes.
SRH also made some changes to their lineup. They opted for ambidextrous spinner Kamindu Mendis from Sri Lanka instead of Eshan Malinga. Additionally, Mohammed Shami returned to the team. It was highly likely that Travis Head would excel as the Impact Player during the chase.
The Chennai Super Kings lineup includes Ayush Mhatre, Shaik Rasheed, and Sam Curran in the top three positions, followed by Dewald Brevis, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shivam Dube. The team is led by MS Dhoni who also serves as the wicketkeeper. Noor Ahmad, Khaleel Ahmad, and Matheesha Pathirana complete the remaining positions on the field.
The subs that may have an impact are Anshul Kamboj, R Ashwin, Jamie Overton, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ramakrishna Ghosh.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad lineup includes Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen as wicket-keeper, Aniket Verma, Kamindu Mendis, captain Pat Cummins, Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, Zeeshan Ansari and Mohammed Shami.
These five players, namely Travis Head, Abhinav Mahohar, Sachin Baby, Rahul Chahar, and Wiaan Mulder could potentially have an impact on the game.
