Marsh’s fourth half-century and Pooran’s 87 off just 36 balls propelled Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a formidable total of 238, which happens to be their second-highest score in the IPL so far. Their impressive partnership came after Aiden Markram had laid a strong foundation for LSG with his quickfire 47 off 28 deliveries. It was a tough outing for four out of six bowlers from KKR, as they conceded more than 12 runs per over.
Marsh and Markram set a record for this season with a partnership of 99 runs. In the first six overs, they scored 59 runs, with one end contributing 46 runs in three overs while the other added 13. The pair dominated left-arm quick Spencer Johnson, hitting three fours and two sixes mainly towards the leg side, where the boundary was shorter.
Despite Narine’s introduction after the powerplay, the openers continued to aggressively attack. After sweeping a length ball off the stumps, Marsh then punished a short, wide ball over cover by rocking back. He repeated this shot for another boundary in Narine’s next over. In between, Varun Chakravarthy bowled an inexpensive over and opted to bowl around the wicket.
KKR turned to their pacers and Harshit Rana quickly dismissed Markram with a sharp offcutter. In the next three overs, LSG made an impressive display with six fours and a six. Varun’s last over was hit for two huge sixes, the first by Pooran with a slash over the short cover boundary and the second by Marsh with a straight hit. Angkrish Raghuvanshi took over from Varun as the Impact Player in the 14th over, when LSG’s score stood at 154 for 1. Pooran continued to dominate, hitting two sixes off Narine and one off Russell. He then added two more off Harshit to complete his fifty in just 21 balls.
After successfully dismissing Marsh, Russell continued to bowl while Pooran maintained his momentum. Following the solid foundation, LSG strategically placed Abdul Samad and David Miller in the batting order, above captain Rishabh Pant. Despite giving up 24 runs in the 18th over to Pooran, Russell remained in his bowling position. In the final over, Pooran delivered a boundary against Vaibhav Arora and ended the innings with an unbeaten score.
