The current score for Delhi Capitals is 188 for 5, with Porel leading the team with 49 runs and Axar and Stubbs scoring 31 each, against Rajasthan Royals.
Late momentum was provided to the struggling Delhi Capitals’ innings on Wednesday evening by Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs. They were able to reach a total of 188 for 5 after being asked to bat first by Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in IPL 2025. This was the first time in the last nine T20 matches at this venue that a team batting first failed to reach a score of 200.
Axar added momentum to the game by taking down Wanindu Hasaranga and scoring 34 runs off 14 deliveries. Stubbs, who was given a second chance when Riyan Parag dropped him on 12 off 8 balls from Hasaranga, carried on and also ended his innings with an unbeaten 34 off 18 balls. The final three overs saw a total of 42 runs being scored.
The final over, bowled by Sandeep Sharma, proved to be a costly one for him. Despite having impressive figures of 3-0-14-0 until then, Sandeep’s performance took a downturn as he conceded 19 runs. In the span of 11 balls, Sandeep delivered four wides and a no-ball, ultimately leading to Maheesh Theekshana dropping an easy catch at point off Stubbs.
Abishek Porel set the tone up top with a quick 23 runs off Tushar Deshpande’s first over. Unfortunately, in the second over of the innings, both Jake Fraser-McGurk and Karun Nair lost their wickets early. McGurk started strong by hitting Jofra Archer for two boundaries in the first over, but his attempt to loft a tough delivery resulted in a mid-off catch.
After Nair’s impressive IPL debut, he faced three fierce deliveries from Archer. Two of them were bouncers that narrowly missed his ear and caused him to mistime a pull, nearly resulting in a catch at square leg. Unfortunately, a miscommunication with Porel led to Nair being run out for zero as he made his way back to the pavilion.
Initially, KL Rahul approached his innings with caution as he struggled to score on the slow surface. He faced difficulty when deliveries were bowled into the pitch at a length. Despite being on 17 off 18 at one point, he was unable to accelerate and was eventually dismissed for a 32-ball 38 by pulling Archer to deep midwicket.
DC can give thanks to Axar for his quick takedown of the spin, which injected the momentum that Stubbs continued to carry forward, ultimately providing them with a total to defend.
