The recent IPL 2025 match in Kolkata ended without a result, causing no significant updates to the top rankings of both the Orange and Purple Cap tables. However, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Punjab Kings (PBKS) game showcased an impressive display by Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, resulting in some changes in the lower positions.
The table boasting the Orange Cap design.
In his first IPL season, Priyansh Arya has been a consistent and speedy scorer for PBKS at the top of the order. With his 69 runs in just 35 balls, he became the tenth player this season to surpass 300 runs. This puts him at the ninth spot on the leaderboard. KL Rahul may have the same total runs as Arya, but his strike rate is lower, placing him at number ten.
Prabhsimran Singh outshined his opening partner by scoring a remarkable 83 runs in just 49 balls, his highest score this season. This impressive performance moved him up to 12th place with a total of 292 runs, narrowly trailing Shubman Gill’s tally of 305 runs.
Aside from Saturday’s events, there is much anticipation for Sunday’s upcoming games. The Mumbai Indians (MI) will face off against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the afternoon, followed by the Delhi Capitals (DC) going head to head with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
This means that all of the top scorers in the IPL, including Virat Kohli, Nicholas Pooran, Suryakumar Yadav, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram and KL Rahul, will be playing in upcoming matches. Positive performances from some players or failures from others could completely change the standings for the Orange Cap. Additionally, B Sai Sudharsan, who currently holds the top spot on the table, will have a chance to defend his position as he plays for Gujarat Titans against Rajasthan Royals on Monday.
The table with a purple cap
The past few days have seen a change in the top wicket-takers, as Prasidh Krishna (GT) and Josh Hazlewood (RCB) took the lead with 16 wickets each. Following closely behind are Noor Ahmad of CSK with 14 wickets and Harshal Patel of SRH with 13 wickets. Seven bowlers have also reached the 12-wicket mark, and Varun Chakravarthy has now joined the group after KKR vs PBKS, making it a total of five players in that category.
As the Orange Cap rankings may fluctuate, the same can be said for the Purple Cap standings after Sunday’s matches. The upcoming MI vs LSG game will see Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur, both with 12 wickets, while DC vs RCB will feature Kuldeep Yadav and Krunal Pandya (each with 12) as well as Mitchell Starc (11 wickets).
