PBKS went all out in their pursuit of a top-two finish and a spot in Qualifier 1 against DC in Jaipur. They were on fire from the start, scoring 60 runs for 2 wickets in the powerplay, followed by another 80 runs in the next ten overs. In the final four overs, they crashed an additional 70 runs. Shreyas Iyer led the way with a quick 53 off 34 balls, while Marcus Stoinis provided a strong finish with an unbeaten knock of 44 from just 16 deliveries. The result? PBKS ended with an impressive total of 206 for 8.
DC’s Mustafizur Rahman took 3 wickets for a total of 33 runs. All of his dismissals were caught by Tristan Stubbs, who was filling in as wicket-keeper for Abishek Porel.
Although Mustafizur successfully took down Priyansh Arya in the second over, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas carried on with their aggressive approach. By the fifth over, PBKS had reached a score of 44 for 1 and proceeded to target DC’s spinners, Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav.
In the following four overs, they lost two wickets but managed to score 47 runs. Despite other players being dismissed, Shreyas stood firm for PBKS. By the time they entered the final overs, their score was 146 for 5. It was in the 17th over when Stoinis and Shreyas struck Mukesh Kumar for a total of 25 runs.
Shreyas achieved his fifty from just 33 balls by clipping the last delivery of the over from Mukesh. In the 18th over, Kuldeep Yadav struck back with a 112kph short ball, dismissing the PBKS captain at fine leg and also claiming the wicket of new batsman Azmatullah Omarzai at wide long-on.
Despite the previous over producing six runs, Stoinis’ contribution aided PBKS in adding another 32 runs to their total within the last two overs. The 19th over saw Mohit concede a boundary and two sixes, while Harpreet Brar started off the final over with a maximum hit, pushing PBKS past the 200-run mark. This was their seventh time scoring such a high total this season.
