Lucknow Super Giants posted a total of 171 for 7, with notable contributions from Pooran (44) and Badoni (41). Punjab Kings’ Arshdeep took 3 wickets for 43 runs.
Abdul Samad and Ayush Badoni delivered late strikes for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), helping them reach a total of 171 for 7 on a two-paced, red-soil pitch. This came after Punjab Kings (PBKS) elected to bowl first in IPL 2025.
LSG struggled to catch up after Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson (substituting for Azmatullah Omarzai), and Glenn Maxwell tore through their top order. Despite being 39 for 3 by the end of the powerplay, things took a turn when Maxwell dismissed LSG captain Rishabh Pant with a seemingly harmless delivery. Yet, LSG managed to bounce back from their early setbacks, scoring an impressive 63 runs in the final six overs of their innings.
Badoni and Samad were the dynamic duo in their team’s batting performance. Badoni displayed his skill with a solid score of 41 off 33 deliveries, while Samad wasted no time getting into the groove and smashing 27 runs off just 12 balls. In fact, he even hit two impressive sixes and fours. His move to reverse-scoop Arshdeep over the keeper for four in the 18th over left everyone stunned. Unfortunately, this cost PBKS a whopping 20 runs. However, Arshdeep retaliated in the final over by taking out both Badoni and Samad, but not before they had already revived their team’s innings.
Earlier in the evening, Arshdeep had a strong start by taking down Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck. Aiden Markram, his opening partner, scored 28 runs off just 18 balls before being bowled by Ferguson due to an inside edge. PBKS deployed Maxwell against Pant and were successful in dismissing him for a low score as well.
After Nicholas Pooran and Yuzvendra Chahal faced off in a cat-and-mouse game, the wristspinner managed to sneak a few tricky deliveries past Pooran’s bat in his initial over. Despite this, Pooran impressively hit two fours in response. However, Chahal quickly ended Pooran’s innings with a well-disguised googly in his next over, leaving LSG at 89 for 4 after 12 overs. The partnership of Samad and Badnoni then took charge during the final overs, ultimately leading LSG to a total of over 170 runs.
