In IPL 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have decided to bowl first against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at their home ground. The conditions in Mullanpur for this opening game of the season are uncertain, but PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer anticipates that the expected dew may play a factor.
For the second consecutive game, PBKS took to bowling first and made a slight tweak to their starting lineup. In their last match, Nehal Wadhera joined as an Impact Sub and impressed with an unbeaten 25-ball 43. Despite this, he was still awarded a new cap for this game. Priyansh Arya remains on the subs bench and may be subbed in during the second innings.
RR’s captain and wicketkeeper, Sanju Samson, returned to the field after recovering from a finger injury that had limited him to an Impact Sub position in their initial three matches. He expressed his joy at being back in action after feeling “restless and helpless” while watching his team from the dugout in the previous games.
Aside from the captaincy shifting back to Samson from Parag, RR also replaced Deshpande with Singh in their pace attack due to an injury.
The Rajasthan Royals lineup features talented players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson as both captain and wicketkeeper, Nitish Rana, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Wanindu Hasaranga, Jofra Archer, Maheesh Theekshana, Yudhvir Singh and Sandeep Sharma.
The RR bench consists of Kunal Singh Rathore, Shubham Dubey, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Kumar Kartikeya, and Akash Madhwal.
The Punjab Kings have announced their playing XI which includes Prabhsimran Singh as the wicket-keeper, Shreyas Iyer as the captain, Nehal Wadhera, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Shashank Singh, Suryansh Shedge, Marco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Sitting on the bench for PBKS are Priyansh Arya, Harpreet Brar, Pravin Dubey, Vishnu Vinod, and Vijaykumar Vyshak.
