RCB’s attempt to reach 16 points and improve their chances of securing a top-two spot in IPL 2025 may be hindered by potential rain during their home match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday.
In the past two days, Bengaluru experienced intermittent bouts of rain at different levels. Looking ahead to this Saturday, there is a 70% likelihood of precipitation, as indicated by the meteorological department stating that “there is a possibility of rain or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening” on May 3.
The weather had an impact on the day before the match, causing disruptions to both teams’ training. CSK began their session at 3pm, but due to rain, they were only able to train for 45 minutes before having to stop. They were able to resume their practice at 4:30pm. RCB, on the other hand, held their session later in the day, starting around 5pm.
Kohli and Padikkal were at the crease for nearly 45 minutes to an hour before a heavy downpour ensued. However, this time the rain persisted for three hours, leading to the cancellation of RCB’s practice session. Along with that, there were frequent thunderstorms and lightning throughout the evening, resulting in waterlogging in several areas of the city.
Despite CSK’s elimination from the playoffs with only two wins in their first ten games, this match holds great importance for RCB. Currently ranked third on the points table with seven wins and three losses, a victory on Saturday would secure them the top spot.
Last month, the RCB-Punjab Kings (PBKS) match in Bengaluru was shortened due to rain and ended up being played with only 14 overs per side.
RCB and CSK will meet in Bengaluru for the first time since their intense encounter during IPL 2024. RCB emerged victorious with a 27-run lead, securing their spot in the playoffs. In their previous match this season in Chennai, RCB dominated with a 50-run win over CSK.
