RCB skipper Rajat Patidar has been penalized with a fine of INR 12 lakh for his team’s delayed over-rate during their victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. This marks RCB’s first penalty for slow-over-rate in IPL 2025.
Patidar, who has scored 161 runs in four innings this season for RCB, has brought a great deal of aggression to the team’s batting. This is his first season as captain, and he currently holds the second-highest run total behind Virat Kohli’s 164 runs from four innings.
The skipper’s leadership skills have received acclaim as well. Following the victory against MI, Ambati Rayudu highlighted the decision to bring back the seasoned Bhuvneshwar Kumar during a crucial stage of their chase, hailing it as a “brilliant move” on ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut show.
When discussing Patidar’s strategic use of his bowlers, Sanjay Bangar praised his intelligence. He pointed out that holding back Krunal for the 20th over was a wise decision, as it prevented him from having to defend with only a small margin in the 19th over alongside Josh Hazlewood. Rayudu also recognized Patidar’s ability to handle pressure and noticed that Kohli did not approach him for advice as frequently as in previous situations.
Having won three out of their six matches, RCB is set to face Delhi Capitals (DC) at their home ground in Bengaluru on Thursday evening.
MI’s Hardik Pandya, RR’s Riyan Parag, and LSG’s Rishabh Pant were all previously fined for over-rate violations before this game.
