RCB batsman Tim David sustained an injury while fielding in their 42-run defeat against SRH, but he did return to the crease later on.
Although Jitesh Sharma, the temporary captain, could not provide an update on David’s physical condition right after the match, RCB will be optimistic that it is not a serious issue since the playoffs are only five days away.
During the last over of the SRH innings, David was positioned at the boundary on the leg side. Ishan Kishan hit a full toss by Yash Dayal behind square and David swiftly ran towards the fine leg boundary. He managed to prevent the ball from going out of play, limiting the batters to only one run. However, he was later seen limping off the field. As a result, Jacob Bethell took his place for the remaining five balls of the over.
During the pursuit of 232 runs, David’s placement in the batting order was at No. 8. His performance resulted in just a singular run off five balls before he was caught at long-on in the 18th over. This unfortunate outcome ultimately contributed to RCB’s defeat as they were all out for 189 runs in just shy of 20 overs.
RCB is facing concerns regarding injuries among several crucial players. Captain Rajat Patidar, who has been dealing with a hand injury, was only able to bat on Friday due to his recovery process. Meanwhile, Phil Salt had also been out of commission until recently but made his return against SRH. Additionally, Devdutt Padikkal had to withdraw from the tournament earlier this month due to injury, and Mayank Agarwal has stepped in as his replacement.
In the future, RCB will have to do without Bethell due to his national duties (ODIs against West Indies), but they will bring in Tim Seifert from New Zealand as his replacement for the playoffs.
It is anticipated that RCB will welcome back their star fast bowler, Josh Hazlewood, for the playoffs. He had briefly returned to Australia during the IPL’s suspension but remained there for rehab due to a shoulder injury.
Following their defeat to SRH, RCB has dropped to the third spot and suffered a blow to their net run rate. In order to secure a top two finish, they must emerge victorious in their final league match and rely on favorable outcomes from other matches.
