MI’s first batsman, Rohit Sharma, sustained an injury and was unable to play in their match against LSG in Lucknow on Friday. According to Captain Hardik Pandya, Rohit received a hit to the knee prior to the game and was unable to participate.
Following MI’s loss by 12 runs in a close finish during the last over, head coach Mahela Jayawardene commented that Rohit had sustained an injury the day prior to the game and had undergone a fitness assessment on Friday.
Hardik was also questioned about Jasprit Bumrah’s return during the toss, to which he replied, “He should be returning shortly.”
In their first-choice bowling line-up, MI made the decision to include Raj Bawa, a versatile bowler who has previously played for Punjab Kings and currently represents Chandigarh in domestic cricket. Notably, Bawa was also the second-highest scorer for India in the Under-19 World Cup of 2022.
In the current season of IPL, Rohit’s performance has been questioned due to his low scores of 13, 8, and 0 in the three games. Despite this, he was spotted on the field dressed in his training attire, engaging in a conversation with Suryakumar Yadav before the toss. He also appeared from the dugout during a crucial strategic time out while MI was bowling.
MI were initially missing Bumrah for the first few games, and also did not have Hardik available for their first match. As a result, they experienced defeat in their first two matches before securing their first win at home against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, they have since suffered three consecutive losses while playing away from home.
