The captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sanju Samson, received a fine of INR 24 lakh for his team’s second over-rate violation in the IPL 2025 season. This penalty was imposed on Samson and his team for their slow over-rate during their match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
According to Article 2.22 of the IPL’s code of conduct, a captain will be penalized INR 24 lakh for committing a second over-rate violation within a season. Additionally, the IPL has removed the option of suspending players for a third offence. The remaining members of the playing XII, including the Impact Player, may face a fine of either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
RR’s initial over-rate violation during this IPL season occurred under the leadership of Riyan Parag while Samson acted as an Impact Player due to his finger injury. The incident took place against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) last month, resulting in a fine of INR 12 lakh for Parag.
RR’s second infraction occurred during their third defeat of the season, out of five games played. This followed back-to-back victories in their previous two matches. As it stands, they are ranked seventh on the points table.
