PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer has been penalized due to his team’s slow over-rate during their victorious match against CSK at Chepauk last night.
Iyer’s team, PBKS, was charged INR 12 lakh for their first over-rate violation in IPL 2025. In order to comply, they had to add an additional fielder within the circle prior to the 19th over. However, this did not hinder Yuzvendra Chahal’s performance as he took four wickets during that over, scoring a hat-trick- his second in the IPL.
Choosing to field first in Chennai, PBKS faced a tough challenge as Sam Curran delivered an impressive 88 runs off 47 balls, allowing CSK to reach a score of 177 for 5 by the end of the 18th over. With Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni at bat, it seemed like CSK had their sights set on reaching a total of 200 runs. However, Chahal’s skilled play disrupted their momentum and resulted in CSK losing their final five wickets for only six runs, leading to them being dismissed for a total of 190 runs in just 19.2 overs.
As a response, Iyer led the scoring for his team with a 41-ball 72, comprising of five fours and four sixes. He has had a successful season thus far and holds the title of PBKS’ top run-scorer, narrowly surpassing Prabhsimran Singh, who also notched up a commanding half-century during this match.
Benefiting from the two points, PBKS advanced to second position on the points table while CSK, now with only four points in ten games, has officially been eliminated from the playoffs contention.
Rishabh Pant (LSG), Shubman Gill (GT), Axar Patel (DC), Sanju Samson (RR), Rajat Patidar (RCB), Riyan Parag (RR) and Hardik Pandya (MI) are among the captains who have already been fined for over-rate violations this season.
On May 4, PBKS will have the opportunity to host LSG in Dharamsala for their upcoming match.
