In the 2025 IPL match at home, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) once again struggled with their batting performance against Gujarat Titans (GT) on a black-soil pitch. Despite their efforts, they only managed to score 152 runs for 8 wickets. The absence of boundaries in the first 36 balls was a setback, and it wasn’t until the 13th over when Heinrich Klaasen hit a much-needed six. Pat Cummins (22* off nine balls) also contributed to the final score by clearing the boundary in the last over, giving their bowling attack a target to defend.
In his third consecutive match, Rashid Khan failed to take any wickets. After a total of four games this season, his bowling stats show 1 wicket for 143 runs in 14 overs. On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj was impressive throughout the powerplay and later in the final overs as well. He successfully bowled Aniket Verma, who was Sunrisers Hyderabad’s last established player, and also dismissed Impact Player Simarjeet Singh. The local lad Siraj recorded his best T20 performance with figures of 4-0-17-4.
Siraj was responsible for SRH’s downfall as he took the wickets of both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma during the powerplay. Head was dismissed on the first over of the match after scoring 8 runs off five balls, caught at midwicket. Sharma also managed to hit four fours before being caught by Siraj at mid-on in his third over of the powerplay. With this dismissal, Siraj achieved his 100th victim in IPL and sixth in IPL 2025 during the first six overs, making him the top bowler in this season.
Left-arm fingerspinner R Sai Kishore proved to be a formidable force during the middle overs, limiting SRH with his impressive control and diverse range of deliveries. He quickly dismissed Klaasen for 27 off 19 balls and went on to dismiss Nitish Reddy for 31 off 34 balls. Despite handing a franchise debut to Washington Sundar, GT did not even require his services with the ball.
With a dazzling display, Captain Cummins single-handedly lifted SRH beyond the 150 mark. Among the top eight batters for the team, he was the only one with a strike rate exceeding 160.
