Before their IPL 2025 match in Hyderabad today, players from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will pay tribute to the victims of Tuesday’s terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. A minute of silence will be observed and black armbands will be worn as a mark of respect.
In typical IPL fashion, cheerleaders and fireworks will not be present at the ground.
The BCCI will show its support to the families of the victims through various means during the game, starting with a moment of silence. This will be announced over the PA system in order for both in-stadium attendees and viewers at home to be aware and join in on the tribute.
Subsequently, during the coin toss, the captains of both teams will honor the victims and denounce the act of terror. Additionally, all players, match officials, commentators, and support staff will don black armbands. Instructions have also been given to broadcast commentators to educate viewers on the significance of the armbands while discussing the tragic event and its repercussions.
Last Tuesday, the scenic town of Pahalgam was struck by a horrific act of terror, resulting in the loss of numerous lives and leaving several others wounded – with the current tally standing at 26 fatalities.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, expressed deep shock and anguish over the tragic loss of innocent lives in the terror attack at Pahalgam. The cricketing community strongly condemns this cowardly act and we offer our heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and pray for the departed souls. We stand together in solidarity with them during this difficult time.
