The return of Trent Boult for the remainder of IPL 2025 is a much-needed boost for Mumbai Indians (MI), as he has played an integral role in their success this season. Despite a slow start, MI has fought back and now stands as a formidable team in the playoffs race.
At the latest mega auction, MI made their costliest purchase in Boult, 36, for a whopping INR 12.5 crore (USD 1.49 million approx.). The southpaw pacer has proved his worth as one of the top players in the team, leading MI’s wicket-taking charts this season and ranking fourth overall with 18 wickets at an economy rate of 8.49. In the away game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he also claimed four wickets for just 26 runs and was awarded Player-of-the-Match honors.
The rescheduling of the IPL after its suspension on May 10 could significantly affect MI, one of the franchises in the league. MI, who have won the title five times, are currently awaiting confirmation on whether their key overseas players – Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch from South Africa, along with England allrounder Will Jacks – will be available for their matches.
According to Cricket South Africa, the NOCs granted to South African players in the IPL will expire on May 25, as initially planned for the tournament’s conclusion. Currently, talks are being held with the BCCI to determine the next steps. Both Rickelton and Bosch have been chosen for South Africa’s WTC final team, and CSA has stated that these players must join their teammates by the end of May in order to prepare for this important Test event.
